Overview

Description 

This webinar will provide learners with the detailed information on the epidemiology and evolving trends in stimulant use. Differentiation of pharmacological mechanisms and the clinical effects of stimulants will be reviewed. Discussion surrounding evidence-based clinical practice guidelines and how to mange acute intoxication and withdrawal syndromes will be outlined. While psychosocial treatments are harder to implement in various practices, these will also be discussed with details on the evidence based for their utilization.

  • Carla Marienfeld, MD, DFAPA, FASAM is board-certified in psychiatry, addiction psychiatry, and addiction medicine, and she is an HS Clinical Professor at the University of California San Diego who supports recovery in an evidence based, harm-reduction approach through therapy, motivational interviewing, and medication treatment. She is engaged in health services and substance use focused data and clinical research. She has authored or co-authored over 50 peer reviewed articles, book chapters, practice guidelines, and invited commentaries, and she edited two books: Motivational Interviewing for Clinical Practice and Absolute Addiction Psychiatry Review: An essential board exam study guide. She has been highly involved in education of colleagues and trainees about addiction psychiatry and effective interventions including buprenorphine treatment and motivational interviewing, and she is the fellowship director for the UCSD Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship. Dr. Marienfeld is a member of the paid advisory board and owns stock in CARI Health.
