Description
This webinar will describe how vocational staff at a peer-run agency were trained to deliver supported employment services with high fidelity to the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) model. IPS services were supplemented with work-specific health promotion support delivered by peer employment specialists using a new manual called Physical Wellness for Work. With training and supervision, peer providers of IPS achieved good fidelity to the model. Recipients of IPS plus health promotion services achieved significantly higher rates of competitive employment and longer job tenure compared to those receiving peer-delivered generic supported employment. Combining IPS and employment-focused physical wellness support and mentoring services may address the specific needs of people with serious mental illness seeking to establish careers, making the peer specialist workforce a potentially valuable source of labor for delivery of IPS services.

How to Earn Credit
After evaluating the activity, participants will be provided with an opportunity evaluate the activity and, claim hours of participation and print an official CME certificate (physicians) or certificate of participation (non-physicians) showing the event date and hours earned.
Continuing Education Credit
In support of improving patient care, American Psychiatric Association (APA) is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Psychologists
Continuing Education (CE) credits for psychologists are provided through the co-sponsorship of the American Psychological Association (APA) Office of Continuing Education in Psychology (CEP). The APA CEP Office maintains responsibility for the content of the programs.
Social Workers
As a Jointly Accredited Organization, American Psychiatric Association (APA) is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. APA maintains responsibility for this course. Social workers completing this course receive up to 1.00 general continuing education credits.
***Continuing education requirements vary from state to state. Many state boards grant reciprocity with national accrediting organizations and other state boards. It is the responsibility of each professional to understand the requirements for license renewal or check with the state or national licensing board and/or professional organization to become more familiar with their policies for acceptable continuing education credit. - Judith A. Cook, PhD is an internationally recognized authority on mental health services research, specifically the study of clinical and rehabilitation outcomes of children and adults receiving community-based care. She directs a federally funded research center along with numerous grants and contracts focused on intervention science, psychiatric epidemiology, and outcomes research. She designs and implements innovative programs to enhance the health and behavioral health of vulnerable populations. She works with federal, state and local authorities on behavioral health service system redesign and alternative financing strategies. Her recent work focuses on randomized controlled trials of evidence-based practice treatments for serious mental illness, and outcomes of individuals with co-occurring mental illness and chronic medical conditions. - Taina Laing, MSW, NYCPS, has been employed at Baltic Street AEH, Inc. since 2002 and was appointed as the CEO as of September 2020. Taina brings over 21 years of peer supervision, advocacy, and vocational services to individuals with mental health diagnoses. Taina participates on several committees and boards across New York State; she was elected the Co-President of the New York Association of Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services (NYAPRS) 2022, sits on the New York State Peer Certification Board, Institute for the Development of Human Arts (IDHA) board, member of the WCNY-IPA, and is a professional participant in developing and overviewing the exam of the MHA National Certified Peer Specialist.
